Läser och virkar / Reading and crocheting

Med sol ute så har det varit svårt att hålla sig inne så nu sitter jag utomhus så mycket jag bara kan. Idag verkar det bli en helt underbar dag så det gäller alltså att göra allt som måste göras inomhus nu på morgonen för sedan måste jag ut, det blir nämligen kallare och molnigare till veckan.

Tidigare i våras besökte jag Stickevent i Borås där jag köpte några böcker och lite garn, och det är först nu jag känner att jag haft tid att titta igenom böckerna ordentligt. Boken Cast On, Bind Off av Leslie Ann Bestor är en favorit då den visar en massa roliga uppläggningar och avmaskningar jag aldrig förr sett men nog skulle jag önska att den varit inbunden så att den håller bättre. Sprialbindningen är väldigt praktisk när man jobbar med att lära sig en ny teknik, den ligger platt, men frågan om den håller åratal av hantering och bokhylle-trängsel är en helt annan, vi får väl helt enkelt se... Trots begränsningarna med spiralbindningarna så är jag rätt så nöjd, kan knappt vänta tills jag får pröva några av uppläggningarna, speciellt Old Norwegian Cast On!

With sun outside it is quite hard to stay inside, and to make the most of the day I am trying to do everything I have to do inside now so I can be outside the rest of the day, the next week will be a bit on the cold side so I really need to make the most of the weather today.

Earlier this year I visited the Stickevent i Borås (Knitting event in Borås) and bought a number of books and some yarn, and it is not until now I have had the time to look through the books. The book Cast On, Bind Off written by Leslie Ann Bestor is a favourite as it shows the reader a number of interesting techniques to cast on and bind off (surprise, surprise!) many which I have never seen before. Though the book is good I am a bit ambivalent regards the binding, spiral-bound is great as it allows the reader to place the book completely flat, which is good, but it does make the book a bit less durable. I wonder how good the book will look in a couple of years, how will the spiral react to be carried around and squeezed into a bookshelf, well I guess that time will show... Despite the thoughts about the spiral, I am a big fan, so far, and cannot wait until I can try some of the cast on techniques, especially the Old Norwegian Cast On!
